A PhD position to work on the project Engineering multifunctional POLYmer CAPsules for lung CAncer therapy and their evaluation in predictive in vitro models. The research, which will be carried out between the Hybrid Biofunctional Laboratory (CIC biomaGUNE) under the supervision of Dr. Dorleta Jimenez de Aberasturi, and the Multilayer and Soft Polymers for Biomedicine (UPV/EHU-POLYMAT) under the supervision of Dr. Aitor Larrañaga. The PhD revolves around the design of innovative polymer capsules and preclinical in vitro models to improve the treatment and understanding of lung cancer,
The project brings together two groups from CIC biomaGUNE (Dr. Dorleta Jiménez de Aberasturi) and POLYMAT (Dr. Aitor Larrañaga), combining expertise in advanced biomaterials for biomedical applications and a strong commitment to training young scientists. The polymer capsules will be fabricated using a layer-by-layer approach, enabling the versatile assembly of diverse building blocks on colloidal templates. These capsules will offer multimodal therapeutic capabilities by integrating chemo-enzymatic reactions and photothermal therapy. In parallel, realistic in vitro models incorporating relevant cell types, vasculature, and mechanical motion will be developed using state-of-the-art techniques, providing a robust preclinical platform to evaluate therapeutic efficacy.
