We are seeking highly motivated candidates for a PhD student position to join our multidisciplinary research team investigating innovative therapeutic and diagnostic strategies for pulmonary diseases. These positions are part of a cutting-edge project funded by the Spanish Research Agency focused on the therapeutic potential of inhaled nitric oxide (iNO) in pulmonary vascular disease, pulmonary fibrosis, and infection-related inflammatory conditions.The selected candidate will contribute to a project that integrates advanced imaging technologies, host-microbiota interaction studies, to develop non-invasive diagnostic tools and novel therapeutic strategies. A key component of the research is to elucidate sex-specific differences in disease mechanisms and treatment responses.
This PhD is part of a subproject inside a global project coordinated by Dr. Ruiz-Cabello in collaboration with a group of engineers led by Juan José Vaquero at University Carlos III Madrid, focuses on two main objectives. The first objective aims to evaluate the therapeutic potential of inhaled nitric oxide (iNO) in pulmonary vascular diseases. Researchers will work to determine the optimal concentration of iNO for effective treatment and develop safe protocols for discontinuing iNO therapy. The second objective delves into the mechanistic aspects of pulmonary diseases. Investigators will explore the molecular and physiological mechanisms underlying pulmonary vascular dysfunction, fibrosis, and inflammation. They will assess how iNO modulates these processes. Additionally, the research will examine sex-specific differences and environmental factors, such as ketogenic diet and microbiome composition, and their impact on disease progression and response to various drug-related therapies.
