Iago López Grobas joins CIC biomaGUNE as a Gipuzkoa Fellow affiliated with the Heterogeneous Biocatalysis group, led by Dr. Fernando López Gallego.
Dr Grobas works at the interface of bacterial biophysics and bioelectricity, investigating how membrane potential and enzyme-based surface coatings influence bacterial physiology, division and cell fate.
He completed his PhD at the University of Barcelona studying the physical response of bacterial communities to antibiotic-induced stress. He subsequently carried out postdoctoral research at the University of Oxford and then at the I2SysBio (CSIC–Universitat de València).
His work combines microfluidics, time-lapse fluorescence microscopy, quantitative image analysis and bacterial electrophysiology. 
At CIC biomaGUNE, he will study how enzyme-based coatings interact with bacterial surfaces during growth and division, and explore their effects on membrane potential and the bacterial division machinery.
